How We experience the World

The Theta-Healing / Theta Transformation information on this site, in Viana Stibal's books and on her website, and on all the other websites I've visited are all couched in visual language. Let me share with you how that visual metaphors and visual descriptions might not be the best ones for you.

As humans living in physical bodies on planet Earth, we take in information in six different ways. One of those six ways is usually dominant in a person. The six ways are visual (sight) , auditory (sound), kinesthetic (touch) taste, smell (olfactory), and what is called a gut feeling, a sixth sense, or a state of just knowing.

Most humans are visually dominant, others are primarily auditory, and in some people physical sensations dominant way that they relate to the outside world. Taste and smell are usually relatively low compared to vision, sound and touch.

What we refer to as feeling and emotions, although significantly different from physical sensations are often confused with physical sensations. Everybody knows the difference between what brings them a pleasure response ("this looks, sounds, smells, tastes feels good." "I like this" I'd like more please) and a pain response ("this looks, sounds, smells, tastes, feels bad" I don't like this." "I want this to stop, to go away.).

The sixth sense comes from the invisible portion of reality, which most people have been programmed to ignore, or denounce as unreal. Is spite of the fact that love, joy, peace, happiness, as well as anger, negative emotions, and unhappiness are all non physical, most people discount the non-physical side of reality. Now getting back to how this relates to you:

Sending and Receiving Information

Whichever sense is dominant in you is the best way for you to receive information. Whichever sense is dominant in someone you are communicating with is the best way for you to get your message across to them. We commonly send messages in words and expect other to understand the message we are sending. We translate our visual, auditory, kinesthetic, smell, taste, inner-knowing experiences into words. We send the words and expect the receiver of the words to translate the words back into the experience we are describing. Unfortunately and all too often, words are incredible inadequate way to communicate an expereince. >
